Gadolinium Gd is often used as neutron absorbing, control and protective material in atomic reactor, and widely used as samarium cobalt magnet additives, capacitor manufacturing, magneto-optical materials, a regulator of MRI diagnosis, optical magnetic recording medium, X-ray intensification, in microwave technology, fluorescent powder of color television, and solid state magnetic cooling medium by magnetization refrigeration to obtain ultra-low temperature close to absolute zero from gadolinium salts etc.
