Yttrium

Description

Yttrium Y 99.5% 99.9%, is a soft, silver-metallic, lustrous and highly crystalline transition metal in Group III, with hexagonal cell crystal structure, melting point 1522°C and density 4.689 g/cm3, which is stable in dry air and easily soluble in dilute acid, but insoluble in water and alkali. Yttrium features the characteristic of resistant to high temperature and corrosion. Yttrium should be kept in cool and dry warehouse and away from oxidants, acids and moisture etc. Yttrium is most important use for LEDs and phosphors, particularly the red phosphors in television set cathode ray tube displays, and also widely used as excellent laser materials and new magnetic materials such as yttrium iron garnet and yttrium aluminum garnet. Yttrium finds more application in some ray filters, superconductors, special glasses, ceramic, fluorescent powder, computer memory devices etc. Yttrium is in the preparation of cladding material for nuclear fuel, and in the production of electrodes, electrolytes, electronic filters, super-alloy, various medical applications, and tracing various materials to enhance their properties.
